Martin Luther King, Jr.
Not the most original person to talk about, I know, but still Martin Luther King, Jr. is someone that definitely made a huge difference in the world. In case you don't know what he is famous for being an activist or leader in the African American civil rights movement. Back then when he lived the U.S.A was not the best place to live in due to segregation and racism. For some reason people mistreated African Americans just because of their skin color, they did nothing wrong yet still they chose to mistreat them. He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi another activist before him and he wanted to fight for African Americans all around the world due to the way they were treated. His most famous moment and one of the biggest, most important moments in history was his " I Have a Dream" speech. The speech is quite self explanatory due to its name but what makes it important is the "dreams" he had. For example he dreamed to have racial equality and put an end to the ridicule and discrimination of the African American citizens or for anyone else in that matter. The speech is what made him very famous due to its contents. After the speech was heard people started listening. Another example is Rosa Parks she didn't want to give up her bus seat to another person just because of her skin color. So people actually listened to the speech rather than let it fly by. He won the noble peace prize and many other awards due to his position of importance in the African American community. But... at 6.01 p.m , April 4, 1968 at the Lorraine Motel, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. The aftermath was unbearable, the entire nation of America had racial riots and everything was a giant mess. But after all he had done, he succeeded in what he wanted in the first place and the world did listen, that's why it is like it is now. There still is racism today but much more less then it was back then. He was granted a national hero and he still is very well known in today's world. But through all the writing, speeches and hard times he went through he got what he wanted and we should all be grateful to him for doing such things. He died for what he wanted and in the end we must all fight for something we want. Respect and equality are definitely worth fighting for.
Martin Luther King, Jr. R.I.P

Ian, your post made me reflect on what Martin Luther King Jr. had done and how he made a difference. You said that he made a huge difference in the world. I agree with what you are stating about how he stood up, not only for himself, but also for his race. I especially liked your concluding sentence and how you paid respect to Martin Luther King Jr. in the end. What I think you could improve on is your title. You could make it more insightful and meaningful. One thing that stood out to me in your post was "a national hero." I think that that title could be more meaningful. I also suggest that you revise your post and carefully look at where commas could be included. The whole piece was very knowledgeable and interesting to read.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliments. I agree I will change the things you said in your comment to make my post more insightful and meaningful. Thank you for the suggestions.
